Traffic Crash on I-80 in Roseville Blocks All Westbound Lanes

A traffic crash around 6:30 p.m. involving several vehicles caused a SigAlert to be issued along westbound Interstate 80 in Roseville on August 10. The major injury accident occurred just west of Douglas Boulevard and involved a Ford SUV and a Chevy Malibu, according to the report filed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The Ford experienced a rollover but ended up back on its wheels. The traffic crash is being investigated to determine the cause.

Major Injury Reported in Roseville Traffic Crash

The accident blocked all the westbound lanes of the highway.  The driver of the Chevy was able to exit their vehicle. However, first responders from the Roseville Fire Department were called to the scene, and there was a report that one person was lying down in the lanes. Another person was standing in the lanes blocking the traffic. A major injury was reported, and EMTs transported that individual to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. A SigAlert was issued to advise motorists to find an alternate route due to the traffic crash.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents are one of the deadliest types of crashes due to the forces that are applied to the passengers in the vehicle. Nationwide, rollovers cause more than 10,000 fatalities every year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Although just about any type of vehicle can roll over in an accident, those with a high center of gravity carry the greatest risk. This includes light trucks, SUVs, and vans.

Why Rollover Accidents Are So Dangerous

Rollover accident danger is primarily two-fold. In the first instance, the driver or passenger is thrown from the vehicle. This is often fatal, especially on highways. The NHTSA announced a plan to keep occupants in the vehicle even if they are not buckled in with a seat belt. It involves the use of side airbags that will prevent a person from being thrown through the window onto the ground. Manufacturers are working to implement this plan in all vehicles.

Crush injuries are the second cause of fatalities in a rollover accident. It happens because the support structures are absent or unable to prevent the occupants from being trapped and killed due to roof crush. Because of this, it is important to preserve the vehicle after an accident. This allows law firm investigators to examine it for manufacturer negligence.

Investigating a Traffic Crash Rollover

Accidents are the main reason for rollovers, however, a weak roof can amplify the injuries and often causes fatalities. Our investigators do a good job of collecting evidence to support our client’s injury claim. This includes:

  • Checking that the police report is accurate and talking to witnesses
  • Examining the vehicle in the rollover to see if roof crush contributed to the injuries and if manufacturer defects were involved
  • Looking for cameras in the vicinity that might have captured the accident
  • Performing accident reconstruction
  • Looking for signs of government negligence, which means the entity in charge of maintenance may be partially responsible

Our experienced attorneys use the evidence to build a case in favor of our client. Whether it is used when negotiating with the insurance company or in court, we go the extra mile to ensure our clients get the compensation they deserve.
