Accident on Watt Avenue Caused by Out of Control Driver
A single-vehicle accident in Sacramento on November 12 involving an out of control car caused injuries to the driver. The collision occurred around 11:09 in the morning along southbound Watt Avenue just south of Kiefer Road in the Rosemont area. According to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Cadillac Escalade was reported as swerving in and out of the median.
Additional Information About the Single-Vehicle Accident
This is when the vehicle crashed into the center divide, overturned, and struck several trees. One tree was knocked down and uprooted as well as a drainage pipe and reflector pole. Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders reported minor injuries in the crash. The CHP is investigating to determine why it occurred and whether driver negligence was involved.
Why Drivers Lose Control of their Vehicles
There are many reasons a driver can lose control of their car. Some are because of driver error, and others are for reasons out of the motorist’s control. Causes because of driver error include:
- Drunk driving
- Use of legal or illegal drugs
- Distracted driving
- Fatigue
- Speeding
- Driving too fast for weather conditions
Other Reasons a Driver Loses Control of their Vehicle
Outside influences can cause a driver to become involved in an accident or lose control of their car. Our injury lawyers can help determine the cause. Some of those reasons include:
- Defective automobile part: If a defective tire blows out or there are problems with the accelerator, brakes or steering, it can cause the vehicle to go out of control. If a single-vehicle accident injury occurs, the manufacturer, parts supplier and others may be held responsible through a product liability claim.
- Government negligence: Potholes, debris in the roadway, poor road design, and others can cause a driver to lose control. In cases such as these, the government entity charged with design and maintenance may be liable for injuries from a single-vehicle accident.
- Other drivers: What may appear to be a single-vehicle accident may have been caused by an aggressive or hit-and-run driver.
The Dangers of Rollover Crashes
Rollovers are especially dangerous to motorists. Once the airbag deploys, it deflates and offers no protection to the passengers inside being tossed around. Those involved in rollovers are more likely to be ejected from the vehicle, which is often fatal.
Roof crush is also a possibility, which frequently causes traumatic brain injuries. Auto manufacturers are held to certain standards in the strength of a vehicle’s roof. However, not all carmakers build vehicles with roofs up to those standards. In those cases, the manufacturer can be held financially responsible for any injuries or fatalities. Preserving the vehicle after a rollover accident is vitally important, so our investigators can check for roof integrity.
Areas of Investigation Following a Traffic Accident
Our investigators are highly experienced in rooting out the cause of a single-vehicle accident. Some areas in which they search for the evidence needed to support a client’s injury claim include:
- The police report is checked for accuracy, and witnesses are interviewed about the single-vehicle accident.
- The investigators perform accident reconstruction, which illustrates the positioning of the vehicles and shows how the collision occurred.
- Traffic and road surveillance cameras are sought, which may have captured the accident on film.
- Signs of government negligence are looked for, including poor lighting, potholes, and more, including the presence of another driver.
- The vehicle, if it rolled, is checked for roof crush and manufacturer negligence.
