Accident at El Camino Avenue Off-Ramp Causes Facial Injuries

A single-vehicle crash in Sacramento on the Capital City Freeway on September 6 caused injuries to one person. The collision occurred around 8:15 in the morning along State Route 51 at the El Camino Avenue off-ramp in the Arden-Arcade area, according to the accident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). When authorities arrived, they discovered the vehicle facing in the wrong direction on the off-ramp.

Single-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation to Determine Cause

Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders arrived to assess injuries in the crash and discovered one person had suffered facial lacerations. No additional information was provided on whether that patient was transported to a hospital. The CHP is examining the accident scene to determine how the single-vehicle crash occurred.

Causes of a Single-Vehicle Crash on a Highway Ramp

A single-vehicle crash on or near a highway ramp can have many causes. Entrance and exit ramps represent a high number of collisions that occur on freeways. They can occur due to driver negligence or from other causes. Some of the reasons an accident of this type can happen are:

  • The driver fell asleep due to fatigue. Lack of rest or a medical condition can cause a driver to fall asleep and result in a single-vehicle crash.
  • Speeding can cause a single-vehicle crash at or on a highway ramp. Ramps are often narrow and congested and may contain sharp curves. When a driver is speeding, the possibility of losing control of the vehicle or hitting the side of the ramp area increases.
  • A mechanical defect in the vehicle can cause the driver to lose control. Defective or worn brakes or tires and other problems can lead to a single-vehicle crash. Because the manufacturer is liable for injuries in an accident caused by a defective product, it is important for the driver to retain the vehicle. This allows it to be examined to determine whether a defect led to the crash.
  • Bad ramp design or lack of maintenance can cause a single-vehicle crash. A curve that is too sharp, inadequate retaining walls, potholes, bad lighting, and other problems can lead to a vehicle accident. The government entity responsible for design and maintenance can be held responsible in these cases. Because the timeline to file is much shorter than for other personal injuries, enlisting the help of an injury lawyer may be advisable.
  • Drunk driving causes many single-vehicle accidents. A driver who is intoxicated cannot control their vehicle, weaves from one lane to another, and has reduced reflexes.

Recovering Compensation After a Single-Vehicle Crash

Because of the many reasons an accident can occur, an injury lawyer conducts an investigation to determine the exact cause by collecting evidence. By doing this, the injured person can hold the at-fault party responsible for their medical bills, wages they lost from being unable to work, and for their pain and suffering. This is extremely important if the injured party suffered an injury expected to continue into the future or became permanently disabled as a result of their accident. Recovery of damages can add an ongoing injury or disability into the compensation claim, which protects the injured party from financial repercussions.
