Vehicle Experiences Rollover on Howe Avenue On-Ramp

A single-vehicle crash in South Sacramento on November 5 caused a minor injury in a rollover. The accident happened around 3:16 p.m. on the southbound Howe Avenue on-ramp to eastbound U.S. 50. The report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the vehicle, a GMC Envoy, experienced a rollover and ended up on its roof along the right-hand side of the ramp, strewing debris in the lanes.

Single-Vehicle Crash Cause to Be Determined

The CHP is determining what caused the rollover single-vehicle crash. No report was issued on whether the injured party was treated at the scene and released or transported to a hospital for additional medical attention.

Reasons for a Single-Vehicle Crash

Single-vehicle accidents are among the most common. Most of them are caused by driver negligence, including:

Other causes of a single-vehicle crash can happen because of an outside influence. When this occurs, the injured party might be able to place a claim for compensation, which can cover their medical expenses, wages lost from the inability to work, and for their pain and suffering. Types of accidents that might be covered include:

  • Swerving to miss animals or objects in the roadway: No claim can be made if a deer jumps in front of your car. However, if someone’s livestock got loose and is in the middle of the roadway, forcing you to swerve to miss a collision, the owner might be liable for any accident injuries. In addition, trucks or other vehicles with improperly packed cargo where items fall in the roadway obstructing traffic resulting in a single-vehicle crash, may be held liable for injuries.
  • Poor road maintenance or design: When the government entity charged with the maintenance of a roadway is negligent, a claim may be placed by an injured party against them for damages. Some examples of negligence include potholes or fissures in the pavement, poor lighting, improperly mounted or missing signage or others. Design is another factor that can result in a single-vehicle crash when curves are too sharp to navigate safely or lanes are too narrow. When dealing with a claim against a government entity, the timeline for filing against them is much shorter than other personal injuries. An injury lawyer can help ensure that all paperwork is filed correctly and in a timely manner. Otherwise, the judge will refuse to hear the case in court.
  • Auto defects: Auto defects such as those that affect the steering, brakes, accelerator, tires or motor can lead to a single-vehicle crash. Retaining a vehicle following a single-vehicle crash is important, so it can be examined for defects. If a defect caused the single-vehicle crash, the manufacturers and others in the production line may be held liable for the injury.
  • Rollovers: Experiencing injuries caused by a rollover is another reason to retain the vehicle. Manufacturers are held to standards that will prevent roof crush if a vehicle rolls but not all of them do. A rollover with roof crush restricts the survivability space of occupants inside the vehicle and can increase the risk of trauma. If roof crush contributed to the injuries of those inside the vehicle, the manufacturer may be held liable. Retaining the vehicle is important to look for defects and signs of roof crush.
