Investigation Underway to Determine Cause of Motorcyclist Fatality
The name of the deceased rider will not be announced by the Placer County Coroner’s Office until the family has been notified of the motorcyclist fatality. An investigation is underway by authorities to determine what happened to cause the collision.
Causes of a Solo Motorcycle Fatality
Solo motorcycle accidents do happen, and some are caused by rider error. However, there are many other reasons a motorcyclist fatality can occur, including:
- Poor road conditions: Roadway negligence such as potholes, bad lighting, debris and others can lead to a motorcyclist fatality accident. The government entity in charge of maintenance can be held responsible for a fatality or injury. However, the timeline for filing against a government entity is shorter than other personal injuries, so enlisting the help of an injury lawyer may be a wise move. Otherwise, if the statute of limitations has expired, the court will refuse to hear the case.
- Another driver: A hit-and-run driver or one with road rage can cause an accident with a motorcyclist and then flee the scene. However, a personal injury attorney can investigate the accident and determine if another driver was the cause. If it was, the attorney can investigate to locate the driver and hold them financially responsible for the death.
- Defect in the motorcycle: Common problems with motorcycles that can lead to a fatal accident include defective tires, brakes, handling problems, alternator failure, engine issues, and clutch failure. When an accident occurs, it is important to retain the vehicle, so it can be checked for defects. If a defect causes a motorcyclist fatality or injury, a product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer.
