Accidents Involving Teen Drivers
As many as 50-percent of all teens are involved in a car accident before they leave high school, according to the National Safety Council. Teen drivers who are committed to continuous learning and practicing will minimize their risk of getting involved in car crashes.
Free Smart Class for South Sacramento Teen Drivers
To reduce the incidence of car accidents involving teens in California, the South Sacramento Office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is organizing a “Start Smart” class for new and licensed teen drivers to promote driver safety education.
The two-hour class is completely FREE. The goal is to help improve safety for teen drivers in the age group of 15 to 19 years. This is the period when too many people make a serious mistake when they are first learning and able to drive.
Eligible teens, as well as their parents or caregivers, are encouraged to join the class. (A parent is the most important influencer for a teen driver, even when they may believe that their child isn’t listening.)

Location: South Sacramento Office, the California Highway Patrol (6 Massie Court, Sacramento, CA 95823.)
Date and Time: 6 pm to 8 pm, September 11, 2019

Teens, as well as their parents or caregivers, will have an opportunity to ask questions and clarifications from CHP Officers. Both classroom discussion and video presentation will be a part of the program to ensure teens obtain a greater grasp of this serious concept.
Certificate to all Teen Attendees
All the teens who attend and complete the class will be given a completion certificate. Most of the leading insurance companies accept this certification as a driver safety course. This could potentially qualify a teen driver for receiving a rebate on their insurance.
Registration for the Smart Class
While parents and guardians are encouraged to participate, they do not need to register separately for class seats. ONLY the teens should be registered. If multiple teen drivers are registering for the class, make sure to include the name and email address for each one.

The Smart Class program is supported by a grant from COTS (California Office of Traffic Safety), through NHTSA.
