Details of the First Drunk Driving Accident
Only a few minutes after 9:20 p.m. on Thursday night, the Suisun City Police Department received a report indicating that there was a crashed vehicle close to the intersection of Blossom Avenue and Railroad Avenue. The caller told officers that the vehicle had overturned during the accident.
When officers arrived at the scene of the accident, they found that the vehicle had exited the road, overturned, and landed on top of a motor home. Officers reported that they believed that the vehicle had initially struck the guy-wire of a telephone pole, causing the vehicle to crash into a fence on the side of the road. It was most likely after the vehicle had collided with the fence that it overturned and went airborne before landing on the motor home, police said.
Police reported that PG&E services were briefly cut off as a result of the accident.
Injury and Arrest
The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old resident of Suisun, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The nature of the driver’s injuries is currently unreported. Police cited the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Details of the Second Drunk Driving Accident
The second accident happened shortly before 9:40 p.m. on Thursday night. Officers of the Suisun City Police Department responded to a report they received indicating that a vehicle had collided with a parked car on the 400 block of Shoveller Drive. Officers reported that the driver of the errant vehicle had apparently lost control of their car and drove into the side of the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old resident of nearby Fairfield, had no apparent injuries. Officers discovered the driver to be on probation and arrested the driver at the site of the accident on suspicion of driving under the influence.
DUI Statistics
Thankfully, neither of these accidents were fatal. However, driving under the influence is directly responsible for almost one-third of all fatal car accidents in the United States. Furthermore, many of the impaired motorists in these accidents have been previously caught driving their vehicles under the influence.
Negligence and DUI
Any person who is determined to have been operating their vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during an auto accident is considered to have been negligently operating their vehicle. What this means is that DUI drivers are, in the event of an accident, usually liable to pay for damages.
However, the driver is not the only party that can be considered negligent and liable in the case of a DUI accident. People who provided the driver with alcohol or drugs, or people who provided the driver with an automobile may also be considered negligent and held responsible for damages.
