Arrest Made in Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian on Garden Highway
A suspect in a May 19 Yuba City fatal accident involving a pedestrian was made after authorities located the vehicle in a tow yard. According to authorities with the Yuba City Police Department, a woman was crossing Garden Highway close to Del Monte Avenue at about 5:50 in the morning when she was struck by the driver of a Honda. The Honda driver fled the scene afterward. The woman crossing the road suffered significant injuries in the crash and died later at the hospital.
Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested in Fatal Accident Faces Multiple Charges
The man, 39, who was arrested by authorities and is believed to be the driver in the fatal accident involving the pedestrian, is from Rio Oso. An alert citizen reportedly spotted a car matching the description of the one driven by the hit-and-run driver in a tow yard. Police said the car was burned, but evidence was found on it consistent with damage that would have occurred in the pedestrian fatality accident.
Suspect in Fatal Accident Released on Bail
The suspect was arrested in Elk Grove and taken to the Sutter County Jail. He was charged with drug possession and felony hit-and-run; however, additional charges may be added. The suspect was let out on $50,000 bail on June 10.
Hit-and-Run Accidents Involving Pedestrians
Pedestrians are often injured or die in hit-and-run accidents because they have no protection from motor vehicles. Driver speed and the age of a pedestrian make a difference because older walkers are more vulnerable to severe injuries and fatalities. Ninety percent of all pedestrians will be killed if the driver is going 58 mph, according to the American Automobile Association.
Fatal Accidents Involving Hit-and-Run Drivers
A hit-and-run driver may be found and held accountable for an injured walker’s accident by either the insurance company or a court judgment through a claim for wrongful death. In many cases, we have been able to locate hit-and-run injury drivers. However, we must be contacted as soon as possible to prevent the evidence from being covered up or destroyed.
Coverage for Underinsured/Uninsured Motorists
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is another way that our office can assist with collecting damages. Drivers in California are offered this type of coverage as an option. If anyone living in their household has this type of insurance, the injury will still be covered even if the pedestrian did not. The insurance rates will not be affected. Car, bike, and pedestrian accident injuries are covered.
A Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
Grieving families can obtain the compensation they deserve through the assistance of an experienced personal injury lawyer. An investigator is sent to the accident scene as soon as possible to gather evidence supporting the claim. Checking for errors in the police report, talking to witnesses, and viewing footage from traffic and business cameras are all part of their investigation. Reconstruction of how the accident occurred is also how they gather evidence.
Our lawyers prepare a solid wrongful death claim to recover damages on behalf of the family once all the evidence has been collected. Evidence from the accident can be used to prepare for a civil court case or negotiate with the insurance company.
