Brentwood Accident Leaves Prius Underneath Pickup Truck
I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood Personal Injury Lawyer. On Tuesday afternoon, September 26th, 2017, there was a three-vehicle accident that resulted in a Prius being wedged under a pickup truck that it struck from behind. Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported. The full details can be found below.
What Happened?
On Tuesday afternoon in Brentwood, California, a driver was lucky enough to have been extracted from her Prius without serious injury after crashing into a Toyota pickup and getting wedged underneath the truck.
According to reports, a silver Toyota Tacoma was at a full stop in traffic while traveling westbound on Sand Creek Road, barely past the Shady Willow Drive intersection. Following behind the Toyota truck was a red Toyota Prius that did not take the time to gradually slow down. The Toyota driver said he could see the red Prius in his rear view mirror and noticed that they weren’t prepared to stop.
The Prius crashed into the rear of the Toyota Tacoma, and the initial impact sent the Toyota flying into a black Jeep Renegade that was directly in front of him. After the Toyota struck the rear of the Jeep, the fast momentum of the Prius continued forward and the car became almost entirely wedged under the truck.
The multi-vehicle car wreck occured at approximately 3:25 p.m. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire) firefighters responded to the car wreck with a group of American Medical Response (AMR) ambulances. Thankfully, no one that was involved in the accident had to be hospitalized.
The Jeep Renegade suffered relatively minor damages upon being struck. On the other hand, both the Prius and the Toyota had extensive damages to their vehicles. Interestingly enough, the owner of the Toyota was actually driving to a location where he was going to sell his pickup truck.
Investigation
The investigation into what caused the accident is being conducted by the Brentwood Police Department. According to Officer Jon Colburn, the primary factors that seem to have caused the car wreck include high speed and inattentive driving. In addition, it is not believed that the driver of the Prius was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
Prevention of Distracted Driving
One way to effectively decrease the likelihood of distracted driving is by promoting awareness regarding the potentially harmful effects of distracted driving.
