Three Injured After Car Accident in North Fresno

Three people were injured after a car accident in north Fresno on the afternoon of February 3, 2020. The crash occurred during rush hour traffic at the intersection of El Paso Avenue and Blackstone Avenue. A woman in her 20s reportedly ran a red light, according to the Fresno Police Department. The woman then crashed into two cars in the intersection and overturned. A driver of a Ford Mustang, identified as a man in his 80s, and the woman both suffered serious injuries. They were transported to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for treatment. The driver of the third vehicle sustained injuries described as minor. Fresno Police have not yet released updates regarding the conditions of those injured.

How Do You Deal With Insurance After a Car Accident?

Drivers get into car accidents every day in California. If and when it happens, an injured person generally files a claim against the at-fault party’s car insurance provider. As long as they have a valid insurance policy, the injured party has nothing to worry about. Issues regarding coverage often come when the other driver has no insurance. An even more stressful issue is when the other motorist was behind the wheel of a stolen car. Not only are they involved in a crime, but there are low likelihoods that they have their own auto insurance. An injured person in this situation has no choice but to seek recourse through their uninsured motorist coverage for damages incurred. While the claim will be handled by their insurance company, that does not necessarily mean that their insurer is on their side with providing the fair compensation they need to recover from their injuries and losses.

How Does a Settlement Work for a North Fresno Car Accident?

A settlement for a car accident is generally negotiated between the insurance company and the injured person. Settlements are intended to make an injured person whole again after a crash for the economic and noneconomic damages they have suffered. Economic damages, or special damages, are monetary losses that have accumulated as a result of an accident-related injury. This type of damage is generally straightforward as they are calculated using paycheck stubs, receipts, and bills. Noneconomic damages, or general damages, consider the intangible harms an injured party has endured. Below are some of the damages you may be compensated for through a personal injury claim:

  • Any medical devices purchased to accommodate an injury
  • Loss of future earning capacity as a result of a permanent injury or disability
  • Lost wages for time missed at work to recover from accident-related injuries or attend medical appointments
  • Past and future medical expenses for emergency room visits, hospital care, doctor visits, diagnostic tests, therapy, and prescription medications
  • Pain and suffering which is subjective and varies in value from case to case
  • Permanent scarring or disfigurement, including costs of cosmetic surgery to revise the scarring

The value of a personal injury claim for a car accident may be affected by specific factors. You can learn what these are by watching the video below.
