Traffic Collision Involving Three Vehicles on S.R. 16 Causes Injuries to One Person
A traffic collision involving three vehicles and resulting in at least one injury occurred in the Esparto Unified area on November 2. The accident happened on westbound S.R. 16 just west of County Road 82 near Woodland at around 8:37 a.m. The accident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the collision involved a Toyota Camry, Chevy Equinox and Ford pickup, blocking the number one lane westbound.
One Person Transported to Woodland Hospital With Injuries
The accident scene wasn’t cleared until after 10:00 a.m. because of the difficulty tow trucks had getting to the location due to traffic backup. One individual was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital with undescribed injuries. The CHP is handling the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Causes of an Accident Involving Three Vehicles
State highways tend to be less trafficked than freeways, which can cause drivers to take unnecessary risks. In addition, motorists don’t always anticipate a vehicle entering the highway from a side road, which can lead to a collision. Some of the common causes of a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles are as follows:
- Poorly maintained roads: State highways and rural roads are often in less maintained condition than busier roadways. This can lead to potholes, cracks and other hazards that can cause accidents. The government entity in charge of maintenance may be liable for injuries in an accident if a lack of road care contributed to the traffic collision. The time limit for filing an injury claim against a government entity is only six months. To ensure it is filed on time, enlisting the help of an injury lawyer may be advisable. In addition, the lawyer can negotiate a settlement for you to ensure you obtain the compensation you deserve.
- Lack of lighting: Many state highways and rural roads do not have adequate lighting, which can make it difficult to see at night. This can lead to accidents when drivers cannot see where they are going.
- Wildlife and escaped livestock: Animals such as deer can often dart out onto roads, causing accidents. In addition, a cow or horse that escaped due to inadequate fencing can lead to a traffic collision. In the latter instance, the owner of the animal may be held liable for injuries.
- Bad weather: Inclement weather conditions such as snow, ice or rain can make driving on rural roads more dangerous.
- Driver error: Ultimately, the majority of accidents (about 95 percent) are caused by human error. This can include things like speeding, driving under the influence or simply not paying attention. When the accident is investigated, it can be determined if a negligent driver was the cause of your traffic accident injuries.
