Accident at Sunrise Boulevard Intersection Causes Minor Injury
A traffic injury accident occurred in Fair Oaks recently in a collision between a motor vehicle and a utility truck. The collision was reported around 12:53 p.m. along southbound Sunrise Boulevard at Fair Oaks Boulevard. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the motor vehicle involved in the crash was a Hyundai Elantra and that the traffic injury accident blocked the fast lane.
Traffic Injury Accident Being Investigated to Determine Fault
The roadway was cleared around 1:25 p.m., and a tow truck had to be called to remove the Elantra, which sustained major rear-end damage. One patient was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center with what were described as minor injuries. The CHP investigation into the traffic injury crash will determine which driver was at fault.
Driver Errors in Two-Vehicle Traffic Injury Crashes
Two-vehicle crashes are common in the Fair Oaks area, and the vast majority are due to driver error. Some of the most common types are:
- Side-impact accidents: This type of two-vehicle crash frequently results in a serious traffic accident injury. Injuries such as pelvic and femur fractures are common, and both require extensive medical intervention and long hospital stays. In addition, the impact is not mitigated by safety devices, as are other types of crashes. In this situation, it is imperative that the plaintiff show they had the right of way.
- Rear-end collisions: These are one of the most common accidents and account for a large portion of traffic crashes nationwide. It is usually due to an error by the driver to the rear who does not leave adequate room to stop in time. However, there are times when the lead driver plays a big part in causing the accident. This includes when the lead driver’s vehicle lacks functioning brake lights, especially on a high-speed freeway.
- Head-on collisions: Frequently seen on roads with opposing lanes of traffic without a center divider, head-on collisions are often deadly. They are frequently associated with drunk or distracted driving.
- Rollovers: This type of accident can cause catastrophic results. It frequently involves vehicles with a high center of gravity, such as an SUV. Speed has a critical effect on rollovers. Roof crush is a part of many rollovers. This frequently fatal effect is often due to manufacturer defects against which a products liability lawsuit can be filed.
Traffic Injuries Associated With Two-Vehicle Crashes
The severity of traffic injury associated with a two-vehicle accident varies depending on the force of impact, which is a combination of speed and weight. Some of the most common injuries are:
- Muscle sprain and strain: One of the most common examples of this type of traffic injury is cervical strain, usually referred to as whiplash. This injury is commonly seen with rear-end accidents. The injured party’s head is thrown backward and forward in a whip-like motion, damaging the muscles in the neck and upper back. This traffic injury normally heals within six to 12 months with rest and analgesics for the pain. In some cases, the damage is more severe and takes years to resolve.
- Fractures: Broken bones occur frequently in car accidents. From facial bones to ribs, the fractures can range from simple breaks to more complicated ones.
- Abdominal blunt trauma: When the abdomen is impacted by the steering wheel, it is possible to experience blunt force trauma. Often this results in bleeding into the abdomen or an infection in the peritoneal cavity, both of which require immediate medical intervention.
- Traumatic brain injuries: The outcome of a traumatic brain injury depends on the type of trauma you suffer. For instance, a concussion most often resolves with rest within a six-month period. Other TBIs are more life-threatening and frequently have dire results and long periods of hospitalization, rehabilitation, and aftercare.
