Tree Fatally Injures Ukiah Woman
I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah tree injury lawyer. On Saturday, January 21, 2016, a woman from Ukiah lost her life in a tragic accident when a large oak tree fell over onto her house.
Warning Signs
The woman reportedly expressed her concern that the massive tree might fall over to her landlord on several occasions. The landlord responded to her, saying that the hazardous tree would simply cost too much money to remove. Branches of the tree had already been supported by steel cables and the woman had confided to several individuals and family members that the tree’s looming presence made her feel unsafe in her home.
Incident Details
In the early morning, sometime after 4 a.m. and before 5 a.m., the tree fell over onto her home. The large fallen oak pinned the woman to the bed she had been sleeping in. However, her boyfriend who had been sleeping in the same bed was not pinned and made it out of the situation relatively unharmed. Also unharmed during the incident were the woman’s two children, ages 17 and 11, who were not in the house when the tree fell over.
Sadly, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident after emergency personnel extricated her from the wreckage of her house. The parents of the deceased have already stated that they have plans to file a lawsuit for wrongful death against the landlord of the property. Both public and private investigations of the incident are ongoing.
Grieving and Representation
Those who lose a loved one have a hard road ahead. Grieving is a process that often makes it difficult to focus or deal with situations that don’t seem related to the process of emotional healing. Those who’ve lost loved ones often find it difficult to communicate at all. However, in a case such as this, at-fault parties are not afflicted by the same trauma that comes with such a loss. Parties that may be liable in wrongful death cases typically get to work as soon as they possibly can in order to disclaim their responsibility for the incident. This is exactly why calling a lawyer as soon as you can is extremely important.
Having an attorney on your side right away can make a crucial difference in the process of investigation. A lawyer is able to take action on your behalf and keep at-fault parties from covering up evidence. In addition to being important to your case, having a lawyer can help families to worry less about fighting for legal justice and focus on finding emotional stability and peace.
