Common Injuries in a Pedestrian Accident
Pedestrians are likely to suffer catastrophic injuries in a collision. This is due to their lack of physical protection against a car. The types of injuries sustained in these crashes vary upon factors such as the size of the vehicle involved and car speed. Some of the common pedestrian injuries include bone fractures, amputations, spinal cord trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and other types of life-altering injuries.
Recoverable Damages in a Pedestrian Accident
Any pedestrian injury may require extensive rehabilitation followed by time away from work to recover. In some cases, an injured party may not be able to return back to work due to permanent limitations from their injury. In these circumstances, a pedestrian may file a claim against the responsible driver for damages incurred in the collision. These may include past and future medical care, past and future wage loss, disfigurement, loss of consortium, pain, and suffering, and more.
Is There Enough Insurance?
A pedestrian accident can come with many, unwanted consequences. Expenses related to these collisions can mount over time, leaving the injured party emotionally and financially overwhelmed. A common question asked in these cases is whether there is enough insurance to cover a pedestrian injury. If the at-fault driver does not have insurance or has insufficient policy limits, the pedestrian may seek recourse through their own car insurance policy. This avenue may be taken so long as the walker has uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. This type of protection may also be used in the event of a hit and run accident.
