Highway 99 Accident Causes Head Injury in Two-Car Collision

A South Sacramento two-car collision on August 7 ended up with one person being hospitalized with a head injury. The accident between a Toyota and Chrysler PT Cruiser happened along Highway 99 close to 47th Avenue around 12:39 in the morning. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, the individual who was driving the Chrysler was taken to UC Davis Medical Center for additional treatment.

No further information has been released about that person’s condition. The CHP is conducting an investigation in South Sacramento into the collision to determine how it occurred and assign fault.

Negligence as a Cause of a Two-Car Collision

Most accidents are caused by a negligent driver, including a two-car collision. Injuries can lead to hospitalization, high medical bills, and lost time at work as the injured person experiences the pain and suffering that goes along with the trauma. I’ve worked hard for many years to help my clients obtain the compensation they deserve following an accident injury and will do the same for you.

Head Injuries in a Two-Car Collision

Head injuries are among the most serious that can occur from a two-car collision. Some happen when the individual inside strikes the steering wheel, dash, or side of the car. Others are directly caused by the impact from another vehicle or stationary object.

The extent of the injury determines the prognosis, hospitalization time, and whether or not the injured person will recover or end up with a permanent disability. Some of the types of head injuries that occur in a two-vehicle crash include:

  • Concussion: A concussion can cause headaches, problems with balance, amnesia, or disorientation. The length of time it takes to heal a concussion depends on the extent of the injury.
  • Hemorrhage: Bleeding in or around the brain tissue is a serious, life-threatening medical condition. Because it can interfere with the oxygen supply, a hemorrhage requires emergency intervention and may lead to a lengthy hospitalization.
  • Edema: Swelling of the brain can build up the pressure inside the head, which is a dangerous condition. In more severe cases, surgery may be required to reduce the pressure.
  • Fracture of the skull: Some skull fractures heal well with medical care and medication. Healing time depends on the fracture. Some may heal in a few days, while others may take months. This can leave the injured person with brain damage, seizures, and lead to infection, becoming a life-threatening issue.
  • Diffuse axonal injury: This type of injury tears the fibers of the brain and can cause serious permanent damage. Patients can go into a coma, and those who survive are often severely disabled.

Conducting an Accident Investigation

Our seasoned investigators go right to work to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s injury claim. They go to the accident site, talk to witnesses, and check for errors in the police report. In addition, they seek nearby cameras that may have caught the accident on tape and perform accident reconstruction.

Our experienced lawyers take over when the evidence is gathered to use it to build a case that supports our client’s claim. It can be used during insurance negotiations in many cases. In others, if the insurance company refuses to pay what the client deserves, the case can be taken to court.
