Two Injured During Berryessa Rollover

Two people were sent to the hospital after a Berryessa rollover accident that occurred on Monday, May 25, 2020. Officials from Napa Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that this collision occurred in the afternoon off of Highway 128 near Lake Berryessa and involved one vehicle. The cause of the accident is still being investigated by CHP at this time and updates on the conditions of the injured parties have not been reported.

Crash Details

The collision occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Steele Canyon Road just north of Highway 128. A 31-year-old man from American Canyon was driving south on Steele Canyon in a 2001 Ford Excursion and hauling a trailer that had been loaded with two Jet Skis. For reasons that are currently unknown, the driver lost control of the Excursion and drove off-road onto a steep downhill slope. The vehicle rolled and the two Jet Skis were thrown from the trailer with one landing in the road and the other on the hillside.

Response

Emergency medical responders at the accident scene found the driver had been severely injured during the crash and had the man rushed by ground ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. A passenger, identified as a 30-year-old woman from Petaluma, was found with minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.

Investigation of Berryessa Rollover

Officers have stated that all vehicle passengers were wearing their seatbelts and that they do not suspect driver intoxication was involved in this accident. Collisions involving single vehicles can have numerous causes and often involve non-driver factors like malfunctioning tires, steering systems, or other auto parts as well as hazards in the road or defective pavement.

SUV Rollovers

SUVs are heavy vehicles and are liable to cause serious injuries when they overturn. According to government data, rollovers are more likely than most types of accidents to leave vehicle occupants with critical injuries. This is largely because the roofs of many SUVs are not able to maintain integrity during a rollover accident. When this happens, the roof can cave in and leave people inside the car with major trauma. It is very important to preserve your vehicle for investigation after being in a rollover accident.

The companies that manufacture these vehicles are expected to make sure the products they sell are safe for drivers and passengers. If the vehicle is proven to have a poor design or is made of weak materials, the company that produced the car can often be held financially responsible for the damages caused during accidents.
