Lake County Crash Kills Two, Injures One

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, officials released the name of the second person who tragically lost her life in a Lake County crash six days earlier. The first decedent was identified as Richard Joseph Adams, a 69-year-old man from Clearlake Oaks. The other decedent has been identified as Ronda Gullickson, a 59-year-old Clearlake Oaks. In addition to the two decedents, one other person, a 33-year-old man from Woodland, suffered severe injuries during the crash.

Crash Details

According to information released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened at around 5:00 p.m. on Highway 20. Adams had been driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer on the highway when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle drifted to the right, eventually traveling off-road. After leaving the road, the SUV struck three trees. The SUV finally came to a stop in the right-hand highway shoulder near the Morine Ranch Road intersection. No other vehicles were reportedly involved in the collision.

Response

Emergency responders arriving at the location of the incident discovered that all three occupants of the vehicle suffered severe trauma during the crash. Adams was tragically pronounced deceased on-scene.

Both Gullickson and the back-seat passengers were extricated from the wrecked vehicle by personnel from the Northshore Fire Protection District. After being extricated, the passengers were transported via helicopter to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Sadly, Gullickson was not able to recover and lost her life while in hospital custody.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, a spokesperson from St. Joseph Health reported that the Woodland man was in stable condition.

Investigation of Lake County Crash

The Clearlake office CHP says that they are investigating the accident in order to find out what causal factors were at play. Police have stated that they do not suspect driver intoxication to have been a factor. However, no other suspected factors have been reported so far.

Wrongful Death Accidents

Losing a person that you care about is never easy, and knowing that they passed away during a sudden collision can make it even more difficult to deal with your feelings. The grieving process can be intense, complicated, and overwhelming, and many people are left feeling like they are in a state of shock. In this period, it’s very important to take the steps you need in order to treat yourself with care. It’s also vital to seek support from the people you care about, whether they are friends, family, or members of your community.

However, dealing with grief can be very difficult when the fatal accident has also left your family with pressing financial problems. A sudden death causes an enormous amount of emotional pain, but it can also mean losing an income source and access to important services as well as incurring steep medical bills and having to pay for funeral and burial costs. Altogether, these expenses can leave families in a tight spot.

Getting Help

Fortunately, it’s possible for many families to get help by seeking compensation through personal injury claims. These claims are meant to help grieving families recover the money they deserve for their losses by holding negligent parties accountable for their recklessness. These parties can include auto manufacturers, government entities, and more. Learn more by getting in touch with an experienced wrongful death attorney in your area.
