West Nile Virus in Butte County
There has been a scary report announced by officials from Butte County stating that the West Nile Virus is considered to be boundless in the valley.
What Is the West Nile Virus?
The West Nile Virus (WNV) is a human contracted infection transmitted by mosquitoes. A majority of individuals that are infected with WNV show no signs of symptoms. People that go outdoors are advised to take safety precautions in regard to the WNV to wear protective garments and insect repellent to prevent the possibility of being bitten by a mosquito. At this time, there are no medication treatments or vaccines for the WNV infection.
Butte County West Nile Virus Infection Reports
According to the Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District, there have been reports of 13 confirmed and infected locals. Thirty-three sentinel chickens have also been infected as a result of the WNV. There have also been 43 reported bodies of water with infected mosquitoes. Reports have also indicated that 15 birds have contracted the infection by the West Nile Virus mosquitoes and have passed away as a result.
West Nile Virus Hot Spot Locations
Butte County has confirmed the West Nile Virus locations in the vicinity of Chico, Dayton, Gridley, Palermo, Biggs, Wyandotte, Hamilton City, Nelson, Honcut, and surrounding areas of agriculture. West Nile Virus reports have included humans, deceased birds, and sentinel chickens.
Butte County West Nile Virus Safety Announcement
Butte County locals are advised by the District to take additional safety precautions to avoid WNV. Safety precautions such as utilizing insect repellent, protective clothing, and discarding any standing water. The state of California has also created a government website in regard to West Nile activity reports in the counties of California.
