Two People Saved From Burning Car in Rancho Cordova Car Crash
A violent car crash in Rancho Cordova was heard by an off-duty policeman and his wife, who were visitors in a local suburb. Officer Mark Afanasav, who is a police officer in Stockton, proved he was also a hero when he sprang into action to save two people who had crashed in a car that was fully engulfed in fire.
Details of the Violent Car Crash and Rescue
Officer Afanasav said he and his wife were waiting at a traffic light talking about how the cycle of the traffic signal seemed to be off when he heard and then saw two vehicles collide close to the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road. One vehicle overturned and slid on its roof, while the other slid into a light pole and quickly caught fire. A dashcam mounted in the Stockton officer’s vehicle caught the accident on video.
Dashcam Video Taped Officer’s Heroism in Saving Two Lives
Even though Officer Afanasav was off-duty at the time, he said his training and instincts came into play, and he realized he needed to help because no one else was there to do so. The violent car crash video shot shows the rescue as the officer jumped out of his car and ran into the blaze engulfing the wrecked vehicle. He said he knew he had to help because he couldn’t let them burn in the car, and he had to do something.
Man and Woman Trapped in Blazing Vehicle Expected to Survive
While his wife yelled that he should be careful, he pulled a man out of the vehicle whose legs were ablaze from the violent car crash. Afanasev then pulled out a woman who was also on fire and helped both away from the danger. He said that both were screaming and on fire at the time of the rescue. Although both the man and woman suffered serious burn injuries, they are expected to survive.
Police Officer Is Not Only a Hero but Humble About His Part in the Event
After the terrifying experience was over, Afanasev said he felt God had placed him there for a reason. He also said he didn’t consider himself a hero because every officer, firefighter, or paramedic would have reacted the same way.
Fires as a Result of a Violent Car Crash
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), collisions are responsible for about 60 percent of all vehicle fire fatalities, and 13 percent of those blazes are responded to by fire departments. When you are injured because of a collision caused by a negligent driver, you may want to find out about filing a compensation claim. By recovering damages for your injury, you can have the cost of all your medical bills covered as well as your lost wages and for your pain and suffering.
