Fair Oaks Boulevard Intersection Is Site of Accident Injuries
An intersection collision in Sacramento on August 29 resulted in several parties being transported to a local hospital. The accident happened on Fair Oaks Boulevard, where it intersects with Watt Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area around 4:49 in the afternoon. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident involved a Toyota sedan and a Ford Mustang.
At Least Two Injuries Reported in Intersection Collision
The intersection was blocked to traffic while an investigation was conducted. The injured parties were transported to Kaiser Permanente North for additional evaluation and treatment. However, neither was believed to be in critical condition. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the intersection collision.
Causes of an Intersection Collision
There are many ways in which an accident at an intersection can occur. Over my many years as an injury lawyer, I’ve successfully obtained compensation for numerous clients after they’ve been injured by a negligent driver or entity. Some ways in which a driver can be negligent include:
- Running a stop sign or traffic light: This is one of the most common reasons for an intersection collision. In some cases, the driver is trying to beat a yellow signal before it turns red.
- Speeding: When a motorist is speeding, they may not have enough time to stop at a light before it turns red or simply pass through the intersection anyway when it is. This form of reckless behavior is responsible for a high number of accidents.
- Tailgating: Following too closely behind another vehicle can result in a rear-end crash.
- Making an improper turn: A vehicle that turns in front of oncoming traffic or makes an unsafe right turn without a clear view is likely to cause an accident.
- Distracted driving: Distracted driving can involve eating or drinking, texting, or talking on a cell phone, having an unrestrained and unruly animal in the vehicle, or for numerous other reasons. A distracted driver only has to take their eyes off the road for a few seconds to cause an intersection collision.
- Fatigued driving: A driver who is too tired to be behind the wheel of a car risks causing an accident. In some cases, it is because of late hours the night before or performing shift work. Other causes may be medical such as sleep apnea or medications that carry warnings about operating a vehicle while using them.
- Drunk or drugged driving: This is, unfortunately, still a major cause of accidents of all types. Because the drunk or drugged driver has poor reflexes, hampered vision, and cannot exhibit good judgment, it often results in an accident.
- Misjudging the distance from another vehicle: Some drivers make a left turn in front of other cars thinking they have enough space to speed through without getting hit. Misjudging the distance because the turn light is about to change is a sure way to cause a crash.
- Aggressive driving: A driver who wants to turn but refuses to wait for another vehicle with the right of way can cause an intersection collision.
Intersection Accident Investigations
Intersection crashes are a serious problem, accounting for about 40 percent of all accidents each year. There are many driver errors that can cause an intersection collision, so conducting an investigation is important. Our investigators collect the evidence needed to support our client’s injury claim. In this way, they can recover damages that include their medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages. Some of the evidence collected includes:
- Checking for mistakes in the police report
- Talking to witnesses to understand what they saw
- Performing accident reconstruction
- Collecting video of the intersection collision in real-time from nearby surveillance cameras
- Looking for signs of government negligence such as traffic lights that don’t work properly
