Two Transit Bus Passengers Injured in Sacramento Collision
A Sacramento Regional Transit bus was involved in a collision with another vehicle on September 10 shortly before 1:00 in the afternoon, which resulted in injuries to two passengers. The accident, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), occurred along Fulton Avenue southbound just north of Alta Arden Expressway in the area of Arden Arcade. The driver of a Mitsubishi was backing onto Fulton Avenue from a local business when they were involved in a collision with the bus. The two people who were injured were transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The cause of the transit bus accident is under investigation by the CHP to determine why it happened.
What an Attorney Can Do For You
Accidents can deprive a person of physical well being and cause financial loss. It is important to have the insight a personal injury lawyer can provide to obtain the compensation you deserve. Evidence is a vital part of any personal injury case. It is particularly important when proving negligence. An attorney can do so on your behalf by sending their own investigators to the scene of the accident. They will search the site for evidence, interview witnesses, and review police reports. Bus accidents are complex. An attorney uses all the evidence they gather to build a strong case against an at-fault party.
Negligence in a Bus Accident
Although a bus is much larger than a passenger vehicle, that does not necessarily mean bus passengers may escape injuries. When such situations occur, it is possible for the injured party to file a claim against a negligent driver. A personal injury lawyer will be at their side and advocate for their right to be compensated. While a new law (SB20) requires that all commercial buses have seat belts, some occupants may not use them. If an accident occurs, that person could be thrown around the bus and get hurt.
What You Can Recover in a Transit Bus Accident
When you are injured in a transit bus accident, you may be able to recover damages as you would in other types of accidents. There are two types of damages. These include economic and non-economic damages, such as:
- Economic damages: These damages are calculated based upon expenses directly related to the accident. For instance, let’s say you are hurt in an accident where the other party is clearly at fault. Under these circumstances, you have the right to claim monetary damages such as:
- Medical expenses: These include everything from the ambulance ride to the hospital, EMS costs, x-rays, and emergency room treatment. It also covers lab tests, EKG or other monitoring devices, surgery, expenses for nursing services, and other accident-related medical care. Prescription drugs are also considered rehabilitative care. Out of pocket expenses for disability devices such as a wheelchair, neck brace, or cane may be claimed too.
- Lost wages: This includes current and future wages lost due to an accident injury.
- Loss of property: This includes damage to your vehicle or other property that was damaged.
- Non-economic damages: This category is more challenging to calculate since people experience physical and emotional trauma differently. It includes:
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional turmoil
- Loss of a spouse’s companionship
