Two-Vehicle Accident in Cottonwood Puts Three in the Hospital

On Thursday, March 18, 2021, three people suffered serious trauma during an auto accident in Cottonwood. According to reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident involved two vehicles and happened in the morning in a rural area. The three injured parties were all hospitalized, and their medical conditions had not been updated at the time of reporting. Additionally, this auto accident remains under a CHP investigation.

Crash Information

The accident took place at around 10:15 a.m. on Lake California Drive. According to reports from police, a 42-year-old Cottonwood man was westbound on Lake California in his 2012 Dodge Ram while a 78-year-old man, also from Cottonwood, was traveling eastbound on the same road in a 2002 GMC Sierra.

For reasons that aren’t currently understood, the Sierra veered left and into oncoming lanes, entering the path of the Ram. The front of the Sierra ultimately crashed directly into the passenger’s side of the Ram. As a result of the impact, the Ram was thrown off the highway and into a nearby embankment.

Response

Responders arrived at the scene to find that three of the four occupants of the Ram had suffered injuries. The driver was determined to have sustained lacerations on the right side of his head while a female passenger received unspecified major injuries. Additionally, a 3-year-old child was also reportedly injured. All three were flown to Redding’s Mercy Medical Center to be given emergency medical treatments.

The fourth Ram occupant and GMC driver were both uninjured.

Investigation

While CHP officers continue their investigation into this accident, there have been no reports regarding likely causes. Double-vehicle accidents can be complicated incidents and might involve multiple causes. Furthermore, it is possible for accidents to involve one or more non-driver factors. Examples of factors that lie outside of driver control include issues with damaged pavement, defective truck parts, and more.

Recovering from Accident Injuries

Suffering an injury during a car accident can have a huge impact on your life. Not only are auto accident injuries frequently very painful, but the recovery process can be both stressful and expensive. Many serious injuries require a lot of medical care, and the necessary treatment is often highly expensive. Furthermore, accident injuries can leave people unable to work either temporarily or permanently, resulting in major income loss and making it even harder to afford medical care.

Fortunately, it is possible to seek compensation for these losses and more through a personal injury claim. These claims help injured parties hold at-fault individuals and groups financially responsible for damages incurred during car accidents. To learn more about what might be available to you for your injury case, you should always get personal advice from a trusted Cottonwood car accident attorney.
