A two-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Elkhorn Boulevard in Sacramento on August 2, west of Greenback Lane. Neither vehicle was blocking the road, authorities said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing at the time of this report.

Injury in the Two-Vehicle Collision

Although the specific injuries were not detailed, the CHP said the injured party complained of pain. The injury was described as being minor. It is unknown whether the person was treated at the scene or transported to the hospital.

Reasons for a Two-Vehicle Collision

The vast majority of accidents involve two vehicles. There are many reasons for such crashes, and some of the most common are:

  • Distracted driving: On highways and urban streets, one of the main reasons for a two-vehicle collision is driver distraction. This behavior takes the driver’s focus off the road. It is divided into cognitive, manual, and visual. The primary type of distraction is the use of a cell phone, primarily texting. It takes approximately 4.6 seconds to read or write the average text. In that time, a driver going at 55 mph can travel the length of a football field. Since texting uses all three types of distraction, the danger of performing this while driving is clear.
  • Drunk driving: A behavior that takes about 10,000 lives annually, drunk driving is dangerous. The driver lacks the muscle coordination and cognitive abilities needed to drive safely. Strict laws govern drunk driving in California, yet inebriated drivers are common.
  • Reckless driving; From running a red light to changing lanes frequently and without warning, reckless driving is the cause of many crashes. This behavior is formally described as the wanton and willful disregard for public safety. Other types of reckless driving include speeding, tailgating, racing and road rage. The latter involves the use of your vehicle to cause harm to another. It is considered a criminal act in California with serious consequences.
  • Speeding: Traveling over the speed limit or at a dangerous speed for inclement weather or road conditions is illegal. In addition to that, speeders are making it difficult to control their vehicle. This lack of control is responsible for numerous collisions.
  • Running a red light: Intersections are already a dangerous place. Disobeying traffic signals and signage makes it even worse. Due to the complexity of an intersection, motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcycle riders all rely on one another for safety. Entering an intersection at a red light can cause a two-vehicle collision.

Investigating a Two-Vehicle Accident

At our law firm, AutoAccident.com, we send our investigators to the accident site as soon as possible. There, they speak to witnesses, review the police report and use accident reconstruction to locate the vehicles before, during, and after the two-vehicle collision. Our investigators also use digital footage from surveillance cameras to visualize the accident in real-time. This helps us determine liability in the accident. Since evidence of negligent behavior is needed for a claim to proceed, this is important in successfully resolving your case.
