Crowd Gathers Near Six Flags to Hold a Large Sideshow
A recent Vallejo sideshow went out of control and resulted in one Vallejo man in the ICU after suffering critical injuries. He was struck by one of the cars, and a second injury occurred when a second person was shot. The sideshow was held close to Six Flags Amusement Park, and authorities with the Vallejo Police Department estimated around 200 vehicles were involved in the illegal spectacle. The injured man, Tyler Ingersoll, age 19, is believed to have been struck by a Mustang that hit a Corvette just before it passed into the crowd that had gathered to watch.
Young Man in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Car
Ingersoll suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash and was placed on life-support. He has had multiple surgeries and at the time of this report remains unconscious. Ingersoll’s family prays he will survive his injuries and is calling for sideshows to be shut down to prevent further harm from happening to others.
The accident was captured on video, including the car crash and gunshots that sent the crowd running. Ingersoll has a fiancé and one child with another on the way. No information has been released on the condition of the person who was shot, but it is believed that the individual will survive their injuries.
Sideshows Continue in California
Sideshows continue in California despite the many accidents and fatalities they have caused. The term sideshow might be unfamiliar to you. Answering that is simple. To begin with, it’s against the law. The fuller answer is that it is an impromptu coming together of hundreds of people to watch automotive stunts such as figure eights and donuts.
These groups can form almost anywhere such as in an intersection, a parking or empty lot or just on a major thoroughfare. The sideshow is most common in a major city and blocks drivers, causing significant traffic problems.
Traumatic Brain Injuries
One of the most serious injuries a person can suffer is a traumatic brain injury. They range from a simple concussion to situations where the nerves are no longer able to communicate with one another, causing significant disruption in the body’s ability to function normally.
Types of Traumatic Brain Injuries
There are several common types of TBIs:
- Concussion: This occurs when the brain hits the jagged inner surface of the skull due to a blow to the head. While the majority of concussions heal with rest and analgesia, others can take up to 24 months for the injury to resolve. It can cause continuing cognitive issues, making it difficult for the person to hold down a job.
- Hematoma: This involves the accumulation of blood between the surface of the brain and one of the protective membranes that surround it. The blood puts pressure on the brain, resulting in significant problems. In some cases, the hematoma is surgically drained. However, in the elderly, it can resorb over time if it is small.
- Hemorrhage: This happens after the small blood vessels in the brain rupture and bleed. The blood once again puts pressure on the brain and causes serious problems. It often requires surgical intervention.
- Axonal disruption: The axons are the projections of brain cells that communicate with one another. If the axons are sheared off due to the accident, communication is not possible. This can result in paralysis or another movement discrepancy since the brain’s message to move a limb is not received.
