Traffic Accident at Watt Avenue Intersection Claims Life of Pedestrian
A traffic accident resulted in a pedestrian fatality in Sacramento on September 30 at a local intersection. The accident occurred in the Arden-Arcade area around 8:14 p.m. at Watt Avenue and Whitney Way, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and involved a white sedan. The pedestrian died at the scene of the traffic accident.
Authorities Investigating Cause of Pedestrian Fatality Traffic Accident
The Sacramento County Coroner was called to the scene to declare the person deceased. Only the number three lane remained open in this area of Watt Avenue as the scene was cleared. The CHP is conducting an investigation to determine how the traffic accident occurred and to place fault. The driver of the sedan involved in the fatal collision remained at the scene.
Recovery of Damages Following a Pedestrian Fatality Traffic Accident
If a loved one died in a pedestrian fatality accident caused by someone else’s negligence, the family may want to place a wrongful death lawsuit to recover damages with the help of an injury lawyer. This not only helps the family in their time of financial need but can help offer them a sense of closure and justice for the loss of their loved one. Some of the areas in which compensation can be sought include:
- The cost of the funeral/burial can be recovered.
- Wages the decedent would have earned until retirement age are recoverable, including insurance, pension benefits and bonuses.
- The surviving spouse can claim loss of consortium and the affection and moral support the decedent provided.
- Children in the family, including those who were adopted or stepchildren who received at least half their support from the deceased, can claim loss of guidance and nurture because of the loss.
- Loss of household services may be claimed, which includes ways the decedent helped the family personally, including lawn and child care, taking care of the family finances, and more.
Ways to Help Those Who Lost a Loved One
Following the death of another family member, a colleague from work, or friend, it can be difficult for some people to know how to react and show their empathy and support when someone is grieving. Some of the suggestions that follow might help:
- Send a card and call on the phone to express your sympathy. If it is permissible, you can offer help in or outside the home to help the grieving family through this difficult period.
- Sending over prepared food or something ordered online can be helpful. People who are deep in grief can forget to eat because they are consumed with making funeral arrangements.
- Help out when visiting the home. Offer to cut the grass if it needs it, wash dishes, babysit the family’s children and just look for things that need doing and pitch in.
- If the grieving person is now a widow/widower and doesn’t have a really good support system, you can offer to take them to run errands such as going to the pharmacy to pick up medicine or accompany them to make the funeral arrangements. Having a shoulder to lean on in a time of need is always appreciated.
- Remember that a person who has lost a loved one doesn’t stop grieving once the funeral service ends. Be there for them, check on them and continue to offer your support.
