WEST SACRAMENTO WATER CONSERVATION VICTORY

Officials in West Sacramento are thrilled to report that recent mandatory water restrictions have really helped. West Sacramento exceeded its water saving goals for June and July.

Effective August 1, 2015 it is now okay for residents to fill or refill their swimming pool if they use potable water.  It is recommended that you use a pool cover to conserve water.

You may also use potable water to fill your ornamental ponds and fountains provided they are equipped with a recirculating system.

WEST SACRAMENTO GETS AN EXTRA DAY TO WATER

Officials say they are adding another watering day as well.   For a full listing of the minor modifications to the existing water restrictions for West Sac, including the additional watering day requirements, follow this link to the City of West Sacramento Department of Public Works.

Thank you to all the homeowners who allowed your lawns to turn brown while adhering to the once per week watering schedule. You obviously followed the guidelines.

Thank you to all those who remembered to turn the water off while brushing your teeth.

Thank you to all those who have been mindful of the water they use and waste.

Our hats are off to all of you who came up with inventive and wacky ways to save water this summer.  Our two personal favorites are showering with someone you love (preferably your spouse) and buying new clothes to wear rather than washing the old ones.

BASIC WATERING REQUIREMENTS STILL IN EFFECT FOR EVERYONE

  • No watering allowed between the hours of 12 noon and 6pm
  • No water should be running off into gutters and streets
  • No watering during a rainy day or within 48 hours of rainfall

WHAT ABOUT WATER WASTERS IN WEST SACRAMENTO?

To report the guy with the neon green lawn in your neighborhood (who waters whenever he feels like it) simply leave a message with the Public Works Department’s Water Waster Message Line at (916) 617-4545.

Before you call or submit your local water waster, be sure to have the following information handy:

  • Address of the water waster
  • Date(s) and time(s) you observed over-watering
  • Explain what you observed
  • It helps if you are descriptive with what exactly is going on (broken sprinkler, open hose, water running into the gutter, length of time water running, etc.

Staff from the City of West Sacramento will make contact with the homeowner by phone, mail or in person to issue a water waste warning, whenever appropriate.
