Woman from Weed Killed During Alleged DUI Crash
On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, a 64-year-old woman from Weed tragically passed away as the result of an alleged DUI collision that occurred in Tehama County. Officials from the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office report that they are currently withholding her identity. In addition to the decedent, two others sustained injuries as a result of the crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reportedly placed one of the involved drivers under arrest on DUI charges.
Crash Information
The crash happened at approximately 11:45 on the northbound side of Highway Interstate 5 between the cities of Red Bluff and Corning. A 52-year-old man from Lathrop was driving north on 5 in a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder when his vehicle crashed into the rear-end of a 2009 Subaru Forester. The force of the impact caused the Subaru driver, identified as a 40-year-old Weed woman, to lose control. The vehicle subsequently overturned.
Response
The crash was promptly called into CHP, and dispatchers immediately sent an accident response team to the scene. When responders arrived at the wreck, they discovered the passenger of the Subaru had sustained critical injuries. Sadly, the woman lost her life on-site.
Both the driver of the Subaru and Nissan were determined to have suffered minor injuries. Whether or not either party received hospital care was not reported.
The Nissan driver was placed under arrest on a felony charge of driving under the influence, causing fatal injury, and was booked into the Tehama County jail.
Rollover Accidents
When a vehicle overturns, it presents a serious threat to drivers and passengers. These types of crashes tend to cause much more severe injuries than mosts kinds of collisions. One of the key reasons that rollovers are particularly dangerous is weak vehicle roofs.
If a car’s roof isn’t constructed properly or is made out of a weak type of material, it’s liable to cave in when it sustains an impact. When this happens, the roof intrudes into the cabin, possibly leaving occupants seriously hurt.
In cases that involve roof crush injuries, vehicle manufactures may share a major portion of financial responsibility for damages that vehicle occupants and their families suffer. However, in order to hold these companies accountable, your attorney needs to be able to prove that the vehicle was poorly constructed. For this reason, it is very important to preserve the wrecked car as evidence following a major rollover accident.
