Accident Near the El Camino Avenue Off-Ramp May Involve Intoxicated Driver
A freeway accident caused at least one injury when four vehicles collided in Sacramento on March 19. The collision occurred on the northbound side of the Cap City Freeway just south of the El Camino Avenue off-ramp around 12:49 in the morning. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that it involved a Mercedes, a hybrid vehicle, and two sedans, which blocked all the lanes.
One Person Transported to UCD With Major Injuries
The impact of the crash spun two of the vehicles, so they were facing in the wrong direction. All the vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department transported at least one person with major injuries to UC Davis Medical Center.
Cap City Freeway Accident Being Investigated as to Cause
The police report stated that drunk or drugged driving had not been ruled out as a contributor to the crash. Toxicology was alerted to administer a test to find out. The incident is being investigated by authorities to determine the cause and to assign fault.
Freeway Accidents
A freeway accident can be among the most dangerous types of collisions because of the higher speeds. Negligence in some form is the usual cause of a freeway accident and can occur for the following reasons:
- Cutting in and out of lanes: This common behavior can cause a freeway accident to occur. It happens because other drivers are unable to slow down in time to avoid hitting the vehicle.
- Speeding: Driving at a speed that is above the limit or faster than road conditions can cause a freeway accident. These include rear-end collisions, which are a dangerous outcome on a high-speed freeway.
- Drunk driving: This type of behavior makes it difficult for a driver to judge distances and interferes with their reflexes and vision, making it impossible for them to react in emergency situations.
- Distracted driving: Not focusing on the road can lead to a freeway accident since the operator would be unable to see changes in the traffic pattern.
- Ramp accidents: One of the most dangerous locations on a highway is in the lane next to an on-ramp or exit-ramp. In both cases, other vehicles are traveling at a slower speed when exiting or entering a ramp. This means the drivers in the slow lane must adapt to speed changes and stay alert.
Investigating a Freeway Accident
Investigating a freeway accident can be a complex affair since multiple vehicles may be involved. In addition, driver error can involve multiple individuals. Our team investigates a freeway accident using the following approach:
- They use accident reconstruction techniques to map out the positions of all the vehicles at the crash scene. This gives investigators a clear view of how each driver reacted at the time of the accident. By doing this, the investigators can assign liability.
- Our investigators interview witnesses to the accident to help determine how it occurred.
- We obtain police reports and review them for inaccurate and wrongful entries.
- If video surveillance or personal cell phone videos are available, these are used as another tool in determining liability.
Once this data is complete, our investigators turn it over to our legal team who use it to construct a strong case for our client.
