A Manteca single-vehicle crash on April 13 left four people dead, including a child and an infant. The collision occurred on westbound Highway 120 around 10:15 p.m. when the Toyota Sienna Minivan driver lost control, causing the vehicle to end up underneath near an underpass on Van Ryn Avenue. The Toyota rolled over and caught fire, trapping seven people inside, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). 

Good Samaritans Help Those in Burning Vehicle in Manteca Single-Vehicle Crash

All of the people inside the minivan probably would have perished except for the quick thinking of around 15 good Samaritans who stopped to help. Those who were already helping were flagging people down in the roadway to join them. The crowd of people, including some high schoolers who were dressed for their prom, helped upright the van and managed to extricate four children, including the infant who died. One woman, whose husband helped to right the van, attempted CPR on the infant. The three surviving youngsters are currently hospitalized with major injuries.

Officials Determining Cause of Manteca Single-Vehicle Crash

Officers stated that the minivan was traveling about 60 to 65 mph when the accident occurred, and the roadway was still damp from the recent rain. At least one of the people who died in the crash was not using a seat restraint. The CHP traffic collision unit is conducting an investigation to determine why the accident happened.
