Motor Vehicle Accidents Injuring Pedestrians
Motor vehicles frequently injure pedestrians, including those standing outside their cars on roadsides. Trauma in a pedestrian accident can range from fractures and broken bones to severe brain injuries, spinal damage, and internal organ harm. Such injuries often require long hospital stays, leading to massive medical bills, loss of income from missing work, and significant physical and emotional distress. An experienced attorney can help victims of driver negligence recover financial losses and secure compensation for physical pain and emotional suffering.
Common Forms of Driver Negligence in Pedestrian Accidents
Driver negligence can lead to a major injury pedestrian accident in many ways in vehicle collisions. Noteworthy examples include:
- Failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians at crosswalks
- Distracting behaviors such as texting or making phone calls while driving
- Speeding, especially in zones frequented by children or within residential areas
- Ignoring stop signs or traffic signals
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Not adjusting driving behaviors for bad weather
Seeking Compensation for Pedestrian Injuries
Victims of negligent driving in Sacramento pedestrian accidents can seek compensation for:
- Medical bills: Victims can recover costs for ambulance services, hospital stays, surgeries, doctor visits, medication, and rehabilitation. Out-of-pocket expenses for things like gasoline or parking are also recoverable with saved receipts. Further anticipated medical expenses are calculated and added to the claim by your lawyer if the injury persists.
- Lost wages: Compensation for earnings lost due to work absence during recovery is recoverable. If the injury forces a lower-paying job or results in permanent disability, victims can claim the difference or lost earnings up to retirement.
- Pain and suffering: Victims can claim compensation for both physical pain and emotional distress with the assistance of their injury lawyer.
