An Oroville traffic collision on June 4 involving two vehicles caused two fatalities. The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup was going along the highway at 65 mph and did not know the vehicle on the bridge was stopped and struck it. The Volkswagen driver died at the scene, and their passenger passed away later at a hospital. The pickup driver sustained minor injuries. An investigation into the accident by CHP traffic crash detectives is underway.

Wrongful Death Damages

Wrongful death damages can encompass various forms of compensation, which a family (usually the spouse and children) may recover if the loved was was killed by a negligent driver in an Oroville traffic collision. Here is a detailed breakdown:

  • Funeral and burial expenses: This category covers the costs related to the funeral service, including the casket, ceremony, and any transportation needed for the deceased. Burial expenses might include the grave plot, headstone, and any fees for interment.
  • Lost wages: Families can claim the income the deceased would have contributed until their expected retirement age. This compensation aims to support everyday living expenses and long-term financial security following a fatal Oroville traffic collision.
  • Pension and insurance benefits: Compensation can include the value of lost pension benefits that the deceased would have accumulated. Families might also claim the value of lost insurance and other employment-related benefits.
  • Loss of love, companionship, and consortium: Surviving spouses can seek restitution for the emotional and relational impact of losing a partner. This includes the loss of companionship, emotional support, and guidance that the deceased provided.
  • Loss of parental guidance: Children of the deceased can claim for the loss of nurturing, guidance, and upbringing that a parent would have provided. This form of compensation acknowledges the long-term impact on a child’s development and well-being.
  • Loss of Household Assistance: Compensation may be awarded for the value of household services the deceased used to provide. This type of compensation is essential as the family may now need to hire professionals to complete these tasks, resulting in additional expenses. This can include areas such as the following::
    • Lawn care: Mowing, gardening, and general yard maintenance.
    • Auto care: Basic car maintenance and washing.
    • Childcare: Watching over children, helping with homework, etc.
    • Cleaning and cooking: Daily chores around the house to maintain a clean and functional household.
