Elk Grove Minor Arrested in Fatal Intersection Accident

Fatal Intersection Accident Occurs on Franklin Boulevard 

An Elk Grove minor was placed under arrest in a fatal intersection accident while he was driving a stolen car. The accident occurred at the intersection of Franklin and Laguna boulevards around, which resulted in the death of 55-year-old Gregg Umipeg. According to a spokesperson for the Elk Grove Police Department, a Toyota Sienna was reported as stolen along Highway 99 close to Grant Line Road around 9:18 p.m. 

Officers Stop Pursuing Stolen Vehicle, but Fatal Intersection Accident Occurs

Officers located the vehicle traveling along the highway and attempted to stop it. A chase ensued. When officers lost sight of the vehicle, they stopped the pursuit when it went into a Laguna Boulevard neighborhood. 

Stolen Vehicle Driver Strike’s Nissan as It Is Making a Turn

The Sienna was going west along Laguna when it struck Umipeg’s Nissan Rogue as he was turning onto Franklin from Laguna. The Sienna experienced a rollover from the impact. Umipeg was given medical aid as well as the juvenile driver. Umipeg died later at a local hospital. 

Police Take Minor Into Custody After Fatal Intersection Accident

The youngster was taken into custody by officers and booked into Juvenile Hall. He is charged wtih evading police, which resulted in serious injuries or fatalities.

Accident Fatalities Caused by a Minor

California Civil Code section 1714.1 makes parents or guardians legally responsible for the actions of their minor children if those activities cause harm to another person or in occurrences such as a fatal intersection accident. This means that if a child, for example, breaks a neighbor’s window or injures someone in a collision, the parents or guardians can be held liable and may have to pay for the damages or injuries caused by their child’s actions.
