Injuries Occur in Lincoln Collision Between Two Dump Trucks
Dump Trucks Collide in Lincoln Collision Near Railroad Marking 164
Two dump trucks and a pickup were involved in a Lincoln collision on June 27, which sent two people to the hospital. The accident happened on Sheridan Lincoln Boulevard near railroad marking 164 around 4:37 a.m. The Lincoln accident blocked the northbound lane and spread debris in the opposing direction, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report.
Two Possible Injuries Occur in Lincoln Collision
Two dump truck drivers left the site of the Lincoln collision before authorities arrived to go to a hospital. They were reported at Sutter Roseville Medical Center later. The two dump trucks, carrying fully loaded 40,000-pound loads, had to be towed from the scene. The CHP traffic crash unit is investigating to determine the fault in the crash and how it happened.
Types of Big Truck Collisions
The significant size and weight difference between big rigs and passenger vehicles cause them to handle differently, require more stopping distance, and demand greater maneuvering skills. In a semi-truck collision, the following factors often contribute to the crash:
- Jackknifing: Jackknifing occurs when a truck’s cab moves more slowly than its trailer, causing the trailer to swing out to the side and potentially damage other vehicles.
- Blind spots: The extensive blind spots around big rigs can result in collisions with other vehicles.
- Inexperience: Operating a big rig is considerably more difficult than driving a passenger vehicle. Due to driver shortages, some companies hire inexperienced truckers, which can lead to semi-truck accidents.
- Violation of state and federal regulations: Laws dictate the hours a big rig driver can operate and when they must take rest breaks. A logging device records these hours to ensure compliance.
- Poorly loaded cargo: Overloading or improperly loading cargo into a trailer can result in a rollover crash, endangering other motorists.
- Override/underride accidents: This type of accident occurs when a truck suddenly stops or is speeding, causing it to ride over or under another vehicle.
