Samsung Recall of 1 Million Stoves Issued Due to Fire Hazard
Fire Hazard by People and Pets Results in Samsung Stove Recall
A Samsung recall has been issued for the knobs on a number of its electric stoves, cautioning that both pets and humans could inadvertently trigger fires by bumping into them. Incidents have emerged, including a video of a dog in Colorado that set off a house fire in June after jumping on the stove and accidentally turning it on, which was captured on the home’s security camera. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified approximately 1.1 million units that are at risk in the Samsung recall. This recall affected slide-in electric ranges sold between 2013 and 2014, with around 1,120,905 units impacted.
Samsung Recall Includes Offers of a Fix for Defective Stove Knobs
Samsung will offer free locking mechanisms or covers for specific slide-in electric ranges featuring front-mounted knobs. A Samsung press release states that the announcement was in response to reports that front-mounted range knobs could be unintentionally activated by contact from people or pets, creating a fire risk if combustible items were placed on top of the range,” Samsung stated in a press release. The CPSC is currently investigating fires linked to stoves that were accidentally activated by pets or human interaction.
