Driver Killed in Sacramento Fatal Traffic Accident on U.S. 50

A fatal traffic accident occurred recently, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old man. Preliminary investigations by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) suggest the driver was traveling at an unknown speed eastbound on U.S. 50, west of 65th Street, around 10:35 p.m. when he left the roadway, colliding with the freeway sign and guardrail. The vehicle ultimately came to rest on the on-ramp to 65th Street.

Sacramento Fatal Traffic Accident Investigation Will Determine Cause

Emergency crews confirmed that the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin notifications have been made. The CHP traffic collision unit is determining what happened to cause the fatal crash.

Accident Fatalities and Filing for Wrongful Death

If your loved one has died due to the negligence of a driver, the family has the right to file a wrongful death claim for compensation. This claim may be based on negligence by another motorist or external factors, such as poorly maintained roads or defective vehicle parts. Typically, this right is afforded to the decedent’s immediate family, including their spouse and children, in the aftermath of a Sacramento fatal traffic accident. Additionally, stepchildren who received at least 50 percent financial support from the deceased and the estate executor may also file. In instances with no immediate family members, the deceased’s parents and siblings may be eligible to file, although only one claim is permitted.

Recovering Compensation Through a Wrongful Death Claim

The damages recoverable in a wrongful death claim can differ based on the deceased’s age and earning potential at the time of the Sacramento fatal traffic accident. Families may seek compensation in various categories, including:

  • Lost wages and benefits may comprise insurance, pension, and potential earnings throughout the deceased’s expected working life.
  • Funeral and burial costs.
  • Loss of love, affection, and spousal companionship for the bereaved spouse.
  • Loss of moral support, guidance, and nurturing for children.
  • Potential inheritance losses that heirs anticipated from the decedent’s will.
  • Replacement costs for household assistance related to the decedent’s responsibilities, including gardening, auto maintenance, and tax preparations.
