Highway 44 Fatal Redding DUI Crash Injures Three
A fatal Redding DUI crash resulted in the death of a woman passenger on August 29. The driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The collision occurred on Highway 44 East near the exits for Stillwater and Old Oregon Trail, east of Airport Road.
Mobile Crash Device Notifies Police of Fatal Redding DUI Crash
Authorities were alerted to the incident after a crash notification from a mobile device was received by police shortly before 1 a.m. The CHP, Redding Fire Department, and Shasta County Sheriff-Coroner responded to the scene, where they discovered a Chevrolet Equinox engulfed in flames. The fire had spread to nearby vegetation, but firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes of arriving.
Vehicle Exited Road and Struck a Tree
Upon investigation, the CHP determined that the vehicle had left the roadway and collided with trees before catching fire. Four occupants were in the car, and three escaped from the vehicle, but one woman became trapped in the front passenger seat. Despite the heroic efforts of first responders, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries in the fire.
Three Hospitalized With Major Trauma
The other three individuals in the vehicle during the fatal Redding DUI crash were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries. Law enforcement suspected the driver was under the influence of drugs, leading to his arrest. The Shasta County Coroner reported the driver was a 58-year-old male. One of the passengers was Robert Clark, age 59, and the other was Ines Bruno, age 37.
Female Passenger Dies in Fatal Redding DUI Crash
The deceased person, a 64-year-old woman from Redding, will not be named until her family has been notified. Twin View Towing assisted in removing the vehicle from the trees while the coroner arrived at the scene to retrieve the remains with the assistance of fire crews. CHP traffic crash detectives are investigating how the crash happened.
