Recoverable Damages in a Fatal West Sacramento Crash

When a negligent driver is responsible for a fatal West Sacramento crash, the family of the deceased may file a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their losses. Some of the recoverable damages include:

  • Funeral and other end-of-life expenses the deceased’s family incurred can be recovered.
  • It may be possible to compensate the spouse for losing love, moral support, and companionship previously provided by the decedent.
  • A deceased person’s wages and other benefits may be recoverable until their estimated retirement age.
  • Compensation may be available for the deceased’s children who relied on them for support.
  • In some instances, recovery for inheritance losses is possible.
  • The loss of household assistance refers to tasks the decedent typically performed, such as tax preparation, yard and auto maintenance, cleaning, and cooking. The cost of hiring someone to complete these tasks is recoverable.

Recovering Compensation Through Insurance if the Hit-and-Run Driver Can’t Be Found

In cases where the hit-and-run driver cannot be located, you may have options to recover compensation through your insurance policy. Many insurance policies include an option for uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, which can be extremely valuable. This coverage is designed to protect you when the at-fault driver is unidentified or lacks sufficient insurance. By filing a claim under this policy provision, you may be able to recover expenses related to medical bills, vehicle repairs, and other damages resulting from the accident. It is important to review your policy terms carefully and contact your insurance provider promptly to understand the steps and documentation required for a successful claim.
