Last week, Honda informed government regulators about the issue, prompting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue an official recall order on October 8.

The concern centers around the steering gearbox assembly, which may have been improperly manufactured, potentially leading to excessive internal friction that can compromise steering control and elevate the chance of crashes.

Vehicles Affected by the Recent Honda Recall

The recall encompasses models manufactured between 2022 and 2025, specifically targeting certain Honda Civics, Acura Integras, Honda HR-Vs, and Honda CR-Vs. The NHTSA started an investigation of the issue in March after 145 complaints were filed by Honda Civic drivers reporting their steering would occasionally stick, demanding more effort to turn the wheel despite the initial announcement indicating no incidents or injuries and the order omitting any mention of crashes, affected vehicle owners will receive notification letters by November 18.

The recall offers free repairs at dealers, where technicians will replace the worm gear spring and reapply grease as necessary. Concerned owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, referencing recall numbers VJV, MJU, and QJT.
