Large Number of Vehicles Affected in GM Recall

In a recent GM recall, approximately 462,000 diesel trucks and SUVs found themselves subject to a transmission issue that could result in the rear wheels locking up—an event that increases the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles include model-year 2020-22 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500, and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks. Additionally, model-year 2021 Cadillac Escalades and ESVs, Chevy Tahoes and Suburbans, and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL pickups are also impacted by this defect.

GM Recall Installing New Software at No Charge

The malfunction in the GM recall stems from a transmission control valve, which may fail in these vehicles. GM’s proactive response includes installing new transmission control module software at no cost to the vehicle owners to address the defect. Furthermore, GM will launch a special coverage program to handle repairs of any transmissions identified by the remedy software as having a defective valve.

Additional Information About the GM Recall

Communications to inform vehicle owners about the recall will commence on December 9.
