Car Crashes Into a House on Las Palmas Avenue in Sacramento
A car collision occurred when a vehicle smashed into a Sacramento home on July 30, but fortunately, no one was harmed. The accident happened shortly before 3:00 in the morning along Las Palmas Avenue, according to authorities with the Sacramento Police Department. It was reported that a child was asleep in the room the vehicle crashed into but was unharmed.
Investigation Into the Car Collision
The driver of the vehicle ran away from the accident scene. The incident is being investigated to determine who was responsible. A driver who flees the scene of an accident without injuries can face charges of hit-and-run, which would be a misdemeanor in this case.
Hit-and-Run Accidents
The number of hit-and-run accidents in the United States is increasing. As of 2018, a hit-and-run car collision happens every minute in the country, with over 2,000 deaths. Most fatalities are those car collisions involving a pedestrian or a bicyclist due to their lack of protection.
The majority of hit-and-run car collisions are the result of a driver who either lacks auto insurance or who is wanted for other infractions. Even hit-and-run misdemeanors can involve jail time and fines.
What a Driver Should Do After a Car Collision
After an accident, there are things a driver is obligated to do:
- Stay at the scene of the crash.
- Assist injured parties and notify 911.
- Provide contact information as well as license number, insurer and policy number.
- Make sure that the accident is visible to other drivers.
- Notify police that the car collision occurred.
- Call the DMV.
What a Person Involved in a Hit-and-Run Should Do
If you are involved in a hit-and-run, there are things you should do:
- Seek medical care as needed.
- Take note of your surroundings, and write down street names or mile markers.
- Try to remember the make and model of the vehicle that hit you.
- Note the color of the car and any markings or decals.
- Take a picture of your vehicle. If there are paint marks on your car, get a closeup picture of them. Many manufacturers use a specific color on certain models, and this can help in identification.
- If witnesses are present, get their name and contact information. Record their statement if possible.
- Try to remember the license number of the vehicle. Even a portion of it can be traced.
- If you saw the driver, write down the best description you can.
Collecting Damages in a Car Collison
When the fleeing driver is apprehended, your lawyer will be able to file a personal injury lawsuit to reclaim damages. In some cases, the driver is not located. The injured party can still collect damages by using their own uninsured insurance. If the injured party lacks this coverage but someone in their family has it, obtaining compensation is still possible.
Proving Negligence in a Car Collision
We send our investigators to the car collision site to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s claim for compensation. They search for proof that the at-fault driver was the cause. This allows a client to place a compensation claim to recover damages, either through the insurance company or in court.
The investigators use forensic techniques such as accident reconstruction and search for videos of the accident from road and traffic cameras. They review the report by the police for errors and interview the witnesses. Our lawyers take over after the evidence has been gathered to build a strong case for compensation for our client.
