A tragic Rio Linda train accident occurred on February 23, claiming the life of a pedestrian who was struck by a freight train. According to Union Pacific officials, the incident happened around 1:15 p.m., near the West Elkhorn Boulevard intersection with East Levee Road in a primarily industrial area near Straugh Road. The location lies between Rio Linda and the outskirts of North Natomas’ Village 12 neighborhood.

The southbound train headed toward Sacramento struck the individual on the tracks. Emergency responders from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among the train crew.

Police with Union Pacific are currently investigating the incident. The County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the victim in the coming days.
