OAKDALE, CA – A mother is facing multiple felony charges, including murder, after she allegedly caused a DUI crash that killed her 4 year-old daughter. According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney office, the 26 year-old mother was driving southbound on Alberg Road near the town of Hickman when she side-swiped a pole and swerved into a canal used for irrigation. The young mother then reportedly left the scene, and was found bathing at a nearby home as her vehicle sank into the water with her 4 year-old inside.

A deputy who arrived on the scene jumped into the water to rescue the little girl. She was rushed to a local hospital, but emergency personnel were unable to save her.

Court documents say the mother’s blood alcohol content was far beyond the legal limit, at 0.15%. She was transported to Modesto, where she is being held without bail in the Stanislaus County jail. She may be facing charges of murder, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI causing injury, among other felony violations. If convicted, she could face a life sentence.
