Carmichael Injury Accident on Madison Avenue

A Carmichael injury accident occurred along Madison Avenue on the afternoon of January 6 when two vehicles collided, and one left the scene before authorities arrived. The accident, reported as a hit and run by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), occurred shortly after 4:00 in the afternoon along eastbound Madison just east of Manzanita Avenue. The vehicles involved were described as a black Mercedes and a blue Smart car.

Carmichael Injury Accident Details

The Smart car and its occupants were left blocking the number one westbound lane on Madison Avenue, according to the CHP. The identities of those who were hurt in the collision and extent of those injuries were not given. In addition, no information was provided on whether the hit-and-run driver was apprehended. However, because injuries occurred to the occupants of the Smart car, it is regarded as a felony.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

There are a number of reasons a Carmichael injury accident can involve a hit-and-run driver. However, anyone who strikes another vehicle or property, causes damage and leaves the scene will be charged with hit-and-run. In California, hit-and-runs can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony. When injuries or fatalities occur, felony charges will ensue. Some of the reasons a driver may decide to leave the scene of an accident include:

  • The driver simply may be trying to avoid responsibility for the accident.
  • The driver may have been drinking or using drugs.
  • The driver may have committed a traffic infraction such as speeding or running a red light or have previous charges for these types of offenses.
  • The driver may be unlicensed or driving on a suspended license.
  • The driver may be uninsured.

Injuries in an Accident

Motor vehicles offer some protection to those in an accident. However, those riding in smaller vehicles such as a Smart car are afforded less protection in an injury accident. Common injuries may include:

  • Head and brain injuries can occur from impact with the windshield or sides of a vehicle.
  • Chest injuries, depending on the force of the collision, can be caused in a side impact accident or if the seat belt breaks.
  • Broken bones are common, particularly to the legs, arms, and knees.
  • Abdominal trauma can be caused by a seat belt or by an impact inside the vehicle.
  • Spinal cord damage is more common in T-bone collisions but can happen in any accident.

Help Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

In a Carmichael injury accident that involves a hit-and-run driver, an experienced lawyer can help by working with police and using their own investigative methods to locate that person. Because some lawyers have the financial ability to use special investigative techniques, they can help increase the chance of finding the negligent driver. Those who have been injured in an accident can face high medical costs, lost wages, and other expenses. The ability to recover those costs can help them financially so they can concentrate on healing without added worry.
