Additional Information About the Head-On Collision
Two of the people involved in the head-on collision were declared dead at the accident scene. Two others suffered major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
How the Head-On Collision Happened
After conducting an investigation into the head-on crash, it appears as though the SUV was moving west along Auburn Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center divider and crashed into a truck traveling east. Investigators with the Citrus Heights Police believe that speed could have contributed to the accident.
The identities of the two individuals who died have not yet been released pending notification of their families by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. Auburn Boulevard between Halifax Street and Greenback Lane was shut down while the accident scene was cleared and an investigation was conducted into the cause of the head-on collision.
Helping the Grieving After a Death
People are sometimes at a loss on how to help someone who is grieving. They are afraid they will not know the right things to say or do. The following suggestions may help:
- Sending a card, flowers or food over is not only customary but always welcome.
- Visit the grieving person to express your sympathy and offer a listening ear. People facing the loss of a loved one, especially from a wrongful death, need to talk to help them through the process of grief. Do not criticize and don’t offer advice unless it is requested.
- Offer to take them shopping or on other errands or arrange an outing for lunch.
- Help around the house. This can be something simple like washing dishes, or you can mow the lawn, babysit or help out in other areas.
- Remember that grief does not stop after the funeral services. Keep in contact, visit and phone regularly to help the person realize that you are always there for them.
Investigation of a Wrongful Death Traffic Accident
When an individual dies as a result of a negligent driver, the family can place a compensation claim for damages. It does not help with the sense of grief and loss, of course, however, it can help alleviate financial stress. Our office has extensive experience in handling investigations into both head-on collisions and wrongful deaths. Our investigators are sent out to the accident scene right away to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s wrongful death claim. This includes:
- Performing accident reconstruction
- Reviewing the police report for errors
- Talking to witnesses
- Looking for traffic and business surveillance cameras that might have caught the accident on tape
- Inspecting the roadway for damage caused by government negligence such as faulty traffic lights or potholes
- Looking for tire tread marks that can indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle or was speeding and for fragments of the car and paint smears that can indicate how the crash occurred
Once all the evidence is gathered, our lawyers use it to construct a strong case in favor of our client. It can be useful either in negotiating for the client with an insurance company or in civil court to recover damages.
