Fatal Traffic Accident on Auburn Boulevard Kills Driver and Pedestrian
A two-vehicle traffic accident in Citrus Heights occurred on the evening of January 22 and caused the death of one of the drivers and a pedestrian. The accident occurred along Auburn Boulevard close to Cobalt Way at about 7:45 p.m., according to the Citrus Heights Police Department. The vehicles involved were an SUV and sedan, which collided after one of the drivers, who was reportedly speeding, struck the pedestrian.
Fatal Traffic Accident With Pedestrian Leads to Second Collision
After striking the pedestrian, the first driver veered into a traffic lane and caused a head-on collision with the other car, causing it to crash into a brick barrier. The pedestrian perished at the accident scene. Both drivers were transported to a hospital.
Negligent Driving May Have Led to Fatal Accident
The motorist in the second vehicle who was involved in the head-on crash died. The driver who struck the pedestrian and lost control of their vehicle, causing the head-on collision, suffered injuries described as moderate to mild in the traffic accident. Although authorities think that speed may have been a factor in the accident, drugs or alcohol have not yet been ruled out.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has recently identified one of the decedents as 41-year-old Sacramento resident Kimberli Michele Washington. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Kimberli Washington and her family to help raise funds for her surviving daughter’s college fund.
Roadway Closed as Investigators Determine Cause of Collision
Auburn Boulevard remained closed between San Tomas Drive and Cobalt Way until at least 11:30 p.m. as police investigated the scene. The identities of those who died in the collision have not been released, pending family notification.
How Reckless Driving Can Lead to a Fatality Traffic Accident
If a driver is driving recklessly, it can lead to an accident that could result in severe injury or even death. Reckless drivers often display a disregard for the safety of others. They may speed, weave in and out of traffic or even drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol. They may also ignore traffic signs or signals, fail to yield the right of way and drive while distracted by a cell phone or other electronic device.
