Motorcyclist Dies in Alleged Antioch Area DUI

On Sunday, February 9, 2020, an alleged Antioch area DUI left one person with trauma that sadly cost him his life. The fatally injured individual has been identified as a 29-year-old Antioch man. However, authorities have not released his full identity pending family notification. In addition to the decedent, two other people suffered injuries during the accident. One of the drivers involved in the collision, a 59-year-old Antioch man, has been arrested on suspicion of DUI driving related to the incident.

Crash Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident happened at about 2:09 a.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 4 just past the Bailey Road junction. Preliminary reports from police indicated that a Volkswagen and Toyota may have been involved in an initial collision and that one or both of the vehicles subsequently crashed into a Harley Davidson, throwing the rider onto the road.

Response officials arriving at the scene of the crash found the Harley rider had tragically suffered fatal injuries during the incident. The man was pronounced deceased on-site. The driver of the Toyota reportedly suffered minor trauma and received medical attention from paramedics at the scene.

Arrest

The Volkswagen driver was placed under arrest for a felony DUI charge before being released into the custody of medical officials who transported him to the John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. The driver has since been released from hospital care and transferred to the Martinez detention facility before being booked into the Contra Costa County jail. The incident remains under investigation, and anyone who has relevant information about the crash or events preceding it has been asked to contact CHP using (925) 646-4980.

Recovering After Fatal Accidents

A fatal car accident is a terrible thing, and it can leave families feeling devastated. Losing somebody is always hard, but a sudden crash can make it even more difficult to process your grief. Often, people experience a feeling of shock as well as intense emotions that can include confusion, anger, depression, anxiety, and more. During this time, it can be hard to keep up with your life, and it’s important to seek support from the people you care about.

However, losing somebody can also mean facing financial difficulties. Not only are family members often left with medical bills and funeral expenses following fatal accidents, but losing a person in your life can mean losing an important source of your household income and/or access to services you rely on like home maintenance or childcare.
