Vehicle Passenger Dies in Run-Off-Road Fatality Crash
The female passenger, age 42, was found unresponsive. The driver, an Antioch man, age 48, was transported in stable condition to Highland Hospital. He was subsequently placed under arrest after the fatality crash and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter.
Police Seeking Information From the Public
Responding officers are alleging that alcohol consumption may have contributed to the fatal crash. Police investigators are working to determine how the collision happened. Those with information about the accident are requested to call (510) 777-8570, which is the unit that conducts traffic investigations.
Run-Off-Road Accidents
Run-off-road accidents are caused by a variety of factors, including:
- Negligence by the driver: A driver who is intoxicated, distracted by texting, speeding or committing another act of negligence can cause a fatality crash when the vehicle exits the roadway.
- Drivers often try to avoid hitting animals on the road by swerving. A run-off-road accident may occur if the driver loses control of the vehicle at a high speed.
- When a vehicle takes a sharp curve at high speed, run-off-road accidents often occur and can cause a fatality crash. There are times when a lack of warning signs causes drivers to enter a curve at an unreduced speed. There may be grounds for filing a claim against a government agency responsible for road maintenance in this case. Because the time limit for filing is six months, getting help from an attorney may be a good idea.
- Drivers of other vehicles: Motorists may swerve to avoid hitting another vehicle that moves into their lane, resulting in run-off accidents.
