Driver Sought Following Modesto Pedestrian Fatality — A pickup truck driver has been sought by local authorities after reportedly fleeing the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident near downtown Modesto on September 11, 2018. A man was walking south along the right edge of Spencer Avenue in the vicinity of Maze Boulevard while pushing a handcart. A witness reported that a pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the man from behind. The motorist allegedly stopped for a brief moment then continued south on Spencer Avenue, leaving the man behind to suffer from his injuries. Unfortunately, the victim passed away following the accident. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 49-year-old Darrell McDaniel of Modesto.

Accident Investigation
According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspect vehicle has been described as a white GM pickup truck with black rims and large towing mirrors. The pickup truck is expected to have damage to the front-end and a possible broken windshield. The motorist has not yet been caught and is currently being sought by authorities.
