DUI Crash Kills Passenger

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton wrongful death lawyer. A man was traveling with a female passenger in his vehicle along Interstate 5 in Stockton during the midnight hour of Sunday, February 5, 2017. The man was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time he crashed his vehicle. Unfortunately, the impact of the collision caused his female passenger to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A man was behind the wheel of his 2010 Jeep traveling northbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Charter Way. The man veered his vehicle to the right and off the roadway at approximately 12:30 am. The man’s Jeep crashed into the guardrail, overturned and came to a rest on its wheels in the far right lane of travel.

Passenger Suffers Fatal Injuries

A 46-year-old woman was sitting in the front passenger seat of the man’s Jeep. Investigators determined that she was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected as a result of the crash. The woman was transported to a hospital where she later passed away from her injuries. The identity of the woman has not yet been released by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.

Our condolences are with the family members of the woman that lost her life in this unfortunate automobile accident.

DUI Suspect Detained

The man driving the Jeep was identified as 43-year-old Albert Julian Flores of Stockton. Sobriety tests determined that Flores was operating his motor vehicle while under the influence. Flores was later booked into the San Joaquin County Jail after receiving hospital treatment. Flores is facing charges of driving under the influence causing bodily injury and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with gross negligence. Flores’s bail is set at $2 million and his court date is set for February 16, 2017 at 8:30 am.

What is a Wrongful Death Claim?

A Wrongful Death Claim is a lawsuit that is filed by the surviving loved ones of the person who was killed due to the fault of a negligent driver. The claim can be made against a motorist and/or owner of the vehicle that was found at fault of an accident. An Uninsured Motorist Claim may be filed if the other motorist and/or owner of the vehicle did not have insurance at the time of the automobile accident. Consult with an experienced personal injury attorney for additional information.
