Three Killed in Eureka Area Crash
Humboldt Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that a local vehicle accident left three people with fatal injuries on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. The accident happened in the early morning, a few miles north of Eureka and reportedly only involved a single vehicle. The three fatally injured people were identified shortly after the accident occurred as James Cohee Jr., a 48-year-old Trinidad man, Chloe Chapman, a 28-year-old Eureka woman, and Cody Behler, a 32-year-old man from Arcata. My condolences are extended to Mr. Cohee, Mr. Behler, and Ms. Chapman’s families and friends after this tragic incident.
Crash Details
According to police, the accident happened at about 3:15 a.m. on Patrick’s Point Drive close to the Larrupin Cafe right outside of Highway 101. Police were notified of the accident by a caller who reported a vehicle on fire off of the roadway. Officers say that when they arrived at the accident location, they discovered that a 1966 Chevrolet pickup truck had traveled off the road and struck a nearby embankment. The impact caused all three vehicle occupants to be ejected through the pickup’s windows. The vehicle reportedly caught fire shortly after.
Tragically, none of the injured parties could be revived, and all three passed away at the scene of the collision despite best efforts from medical personnel. According to online comments from community members, Mr. Cohee is survived by his wife and children. Information about the families of Mr. Beher and Ms. Chapman were not available.
